DIY Dress up storage for under $5 because every super hero needs a place to hang his mask! I have been looking for a good hanging dress up storage solution for the boys' playroom. Most options are either super girly or expensive (or both!) I thought, I can make something better! Or should I say, I can think up a great idea and my wonderful husband can put it together for me :) we went to Home Depot and picked up a few supplies and ended up with something really cool that can move with us & grow with our boys. Materials: -A piece of wood (cut to the length you want) -Large bolts to hang clothes/masks/hats (we used 2 1/2 in. long hexagon head bolts) -paint -screws to hang on wall We went to the scrap/ clearance wood section at Home Depot & picked up a piece of wood for .51 cents. I then walked through the store looking for "out of the box" options to use as hooks on our hanging storage. Hooks were kinda pricey, door knobs were cute but a little girly, drawer pulls were pricey too. Then we wandered to the bolts & screws aisle, eureka! Hundreds of options in every size and shape and very industrial/manly looking. We chose to use hexagon head bolts that were 2 1/2 inches long but you can customize yours to any desired length & size. When we got home hubby got to work (did I mention I have a great man!) He sanded the wood then pre drilled the holes for the screws. Next he spray painted the wood a very manly black. After the paint had dried he screwed in the bolts. He also used a bit of wood glue on the bolts just to be sure they were extra secure. Lastly he screwed the hanging storage board to the wall in the playroom & now we have an amazing custom dress up storage. I love it! & bc we are a military family it has the added bonus of being very renter friendly. Only 2 screw holes to fill at the end of our lease instead of 7. Total cost of this project was under $5 :) if you don't have the tools & spray paint on hand like we did it will still be a very cheap project. Now, off to play super heros!
