Homemade Playdough

I have been feeling a bit like a slacker mom lately. In my life before kids I was a private teacher and a play & art teacher at Gymboree and yet its been a long time since I've done any art projects with my own kids. Yesterday I felt motivated to do something fun with the boys. We got out the flour, salt, water, vegetable oil, cream of tartar, & Kool Aid to make some homemade playdough. Brody had so much fun measuring, pouring, & mixing the ingredients. It's a great opportunity to practice math, science, fine motor skills, color recognition and following directions disguised as fun. Below is the recipe & of course be careful when handling hot liquids with small children running around! 2 cups flour 2 cups water 1 & 1/2 cup salt 3/4 cup vegetable oil 1 teaspoon cream of tartar 1 packet of Kool Aid or food coloring Microwave water and oil in a large microwave safe bowl for about 3 mins or until boiling. Mix dry ingredients in separate bowl. Add liquid into dry ingredients until you reach the right consistency. Allow the playdough to cool before allowing children to play with it. Store in an airtight container or ziplock bag. - huge thank you to my mom for the recipe! Love ya ma! :)
