The Williams School

The Williams School is an independent K-8 coeducational day school established in 1927. A Williams School education is founded upon the belief that children are born with innate curiosity and when encouraged, readily embrace new concepts and skills and assume new responsibilities. As a result, we use innovative teaching methods tailored to the needs of each child to present a rigorous academic curriculum. Our 6:1 student: teacher ratio allows us to provide the individual attention students need to develop the fullest academically and socially as they acquire a life-long love of learning. Values, family, and community responsibility are integral to a Williams School education. The school motto, “Honor before Honors,” is as timely today as it was at our founding. We believe the most important values we can instill in our students are a code of honesty and an enduring sense of responsibility. Philosophy: The Williams School realizes its mission through the following key concepts: * A child-centered environment * An emphasis on integrity and responsibility * A non-institutional atmosphere * A partnership with parents A Child-Centered Environment We believe that children learn in different ways at different rates and “one size” does not fit all. As a result, we provide substantial individual attention to each student by maintaining a low student/teacher ratio. Furthermore, we are flexible in our approach to teaching, using innovative approaches to accomplish traditional academic goals and the mastery of a rigorous curriculum. In order to develop each child in accordance with his or her capabilities, we strive to provide challenging work at whatever level each child has reached. Emphasis on Integrity and Responsibility The most important values we can instill in our students are a love for honesty and an enduring sense of responsibility. A frequently heard theme at The Williams School is the School's motto, "Honor before Honors" where we instill an honor for self, others, and the work we do. In daily life, we insist that children respect the rights and needs of others and exhibit proper social behavior both within and outside the school community. Finally, we emphasize contribution to the larger community by students of all ages.
